My ranting of sports, life, and whatever I feel like...but mostly sports. Now in the un-daily variety.

Training camp opens, Johnson still unsigned

Well, another season of Lions football has opened for business, with everybody in the organization drinking the corporate kool-aid. Many Lions have come out publically to tell people that they are going to win 'at least 10 games' this year (quote courtesy of Jon Kitna). Now, I'm not sure whether that's true or not, but our offense looks a lot better this year, with upgrades at offensive line and obviously the unsigned, but extremely talented, Calvin Johnson (memo to Lions: Sign this guy!!! back up the brinks truck to his house, I don't care. He is pretty important to this season). Defense is still a question mark, especially at corner with the untested Stanley Wilson, and the oft-injured Fernando Bryant are penciled in as the starters. The linebackers should be solid, though, and the front four should be a force if Shawn Rogers decides he wants to play every down, for every game. Hopefully this is the beginning of a long streak of not-crappiness for the Lions.

The Tigers are in the process of taking a big dump on the field, and cannot buy a win at the moment. Part of it is due to the bullpen not doing its job, but the current 4 game losing streak is the whole team's fault. And with the trade deadline approaching, I'm not sure if anything can be done to fix this. Hopefully the Tigers figure it out soon, and get this ship heading in the right direction, I would hate for the Yankees for slip into the playoffs b/c we faded down the stretch.

Well, that's all for now, I may throw another post in towards the end of the week, before I take off to NEW YORK CITY!!!!!! Thanks for reading.

Au Revoir, Thierry!

This past week was a sad week for Arsenal fans everywhere, as our club's leading scorer and captain was transferred to FC Barcelona. Thierry Henry, who has been the face of Arsenal almost since he first stepped on the Highbury pitch in 1999, along with the Arsenal front office, has decided that he needed to go in a new direction, and Barca is now his new home. Known for his lighning-fast pace, and his clinical finishing, Henry will be sorely missed at Ashburton Grove. My only trip to London to see Arsenal play, and Henry ended up with all 4 goals that Arsenal scored in the two games I saw (a hat-trick v. Portsmouth, and the lone goal in a CL game against Bayern Munich). The last 2 years may have been a little disappointing for Thierry, with no trophies won for the Arsenal, and that may have aided in his decision to leave the club at this point in his career, even though he signed a contract last season and declared "If an opportunity like Barcelona comes again, with all my respect for such a club, I will refuse" . Apparently an untrue statement. But even though he leaves the Arsenal behind, he will still be remembered as a great footballer for the club, and will be missed.

Buena Suerte, Thierry!!
